Jupiter Inlet Historic and Archeological Site
This beautiful 19-acre park includes turquoise lagoons for snorkeling, beaches for lounging and a many picnic areas. Tucked inside the park is an archaeological site, an ancient shell midden built by the Jaega people. It was the site of the village of Hobe. Jonathan Dickinson famous for his Journal, was shipwrecked here in 1699. The Dubois house was built on top of the shell midden. We will spend two hours at the site to enjoy a picnic lunch and the sites. Feel free to bring your bathing suits and towels, and snorkeling equipment.
Opened by surfers as a sandwich shop, Guanabanas has become an institution in Northern Palm County specializing in seafood.
Mount Elizabeth Archeological Site
Sitting on 34 acres of riverfront, woodland and rolling lawns perched high above the Indian River this site is known as the Tuckahoe. It was built by Willaford Ransom Leach and his Coca Cola heiress wife Anne Winship Bates in 1896. It was built on top of a prehistoric native American burial ground.
Old Fort Pierce Park
This is the site a native American burial ground as well as a fort that the United Stated built during the Seminole wars. Most burial mounds in Florida were built over or demolished for development. The park was named after Benjamin Pierce was the brother of President Franklin Pierce. The site once had a natural spring which made it a popular location for the Ais people, and later for the Spanish who would refill their jars with water before making the long transatlantic journey back to Spain.
We will bring you back to Kelly Park East on Merritt Island.
